American history consists of many stories - the story of territorial growth and expansion, the story of the rise of the middle class, the story of technological innovation and economic development, and the story of U.S. engagement with the wider world. [This book] incorporates these traditional narratives into a new ... interpretation of American history, one that includes the stories of diverse groups of people and explores expanding notions of American identity. The book's basic framework focuses on the political events and economic structures discussed in most American history textbooks. [This book] aims not to overturn the familiar chronology of American history, but to incorporate into it a variety of groups and individuals whose stories help us to provide an accurate, comprehensive, and compelling view of the past.-Pref.

Ecologists interested in assessing landscapes and ecosystems must measure biomass, cover, and the density or frequency of various key species. Recently, sampling designs for measuring species richness and diversity, patterns of plant diversity, species-environment relationships, and species distributions have become fine-grained, as it has become increasingly important to accurately map and assess rare species for conservation. This book lays out the range of current methods for mapping and measuring species diversity, for field ecologists, resource managers, conservation biologist, and students, as a tool kit for future measurements of plant diversity.

Its time that people on the street have more access to truth about things that directly affect them. Some of you may think that this is a novel, to be burnt after reading. I strongly differ with you on that point; Marvin Gaye had it right years ago, when he asked the question Whats Going On? For those of us on the streets we need to know, if we are going to survive in this world. No, dont burn the novel, go find out whats going on in your community, city, county, state, and country. Know who you are sleeping with, whats happening to your children, and will you have any grand children, and what kind of life will they have? Truth is, often stranger than fiction!

What does Jesus mean when he says, A disciple is not above his teacher, but each disciple, after being fully trained, will be like his teacher (Luke 6:40)? This verse has been quoted, cited, and referenced in vast amounts of Christian education and discipleship literature. Nevertheless, the verse is nearly untouched in exegetical discussions with the exception of source-critical analyses. From this verse arises an undeveloped theme in the Gospel of Luke and the New Testament--the theme of likeness education. Using content analysis methodology, Luke 6:40--one of the keystone passages in Christian education literature--serves as the starting point for mining out the theme of likeness education in the New Testament. This study consists of three concentric areas of investigation: (1) Luke 6:40 and its immediate context, (2) Luke-Acts, and (3) the New Testament corpus.

Poem of the day

Wilfrid Scawen Blunt Poem
Her Name Liberty
 by Wilfrid Scawen Blunt

I thought to do a deed of chivalry,
An act of worth, which haply in her sight
Who was my mistress should recorded be
And of the nations. And, when thus the fight
Faltered and men once bold with faces white
Turned this and that way in excuse to flee,
I only stood, and by the foeman's might
Was overborne and mangled cruelly.
