ON HIS BRINGING ME SOME FLOWERS IN MARCH.
SOOTH'D I receive the flowers you bring,
Whose charm anticipates the Spring;
Whose tints in vernal freshness vie
With plants beneath an austral sky,--
Those glowing plants that, long unknown,
Your travell'd science made our own:--
Bright gift! in lavish grace array'd,
Thy flowers have only bloom'd to fade,--
Their transient being soon forgot:
How far unlike the giver's lot!
To The Baron De Humboldt,
Helen Maria Williams

Write your comment about To The Baron De Humboldt, poem by Helen Maria Williams
Anita O'Connor.: I only learnt of the Baron de Humboldt after buying an antique box that is the size of a match box and quite like a match box, for double cement pens that was dedicated and accepted by the Baron, containing an extrait de letter autographe, Berlin, 13 May 1858. His picture is presented on the front.
When I saw this poem I assumed it was from the period in which he lived, how sweet the thought of his flowers for you bought, perhaps he did buy the very flowers he gave to you in another life maybe.
I would like to know the poets inspiration in relation to the Baron de Humboldt and I am positive he would be deeply flattered.
