Love in a Hurry
Authors: Gelett Burgess
Publisher:
Published Date: 1913
Categories: Electronic books
If you read this book's dedication, you'll find that Gelett Burgess calls this humorous and merry novel a "scherzo variant of an old theme." The story is that of a young man who stands to inherit a million dollars if he marries within a prescribed time. The time limit in this case is a mere fourteen hours. Thus, in a frantic attempt to claim his million, Halle Banistelle, artist-photographer and playboy, proposes to three women at once, and is accepted by all of them. Luckily for him one takes his hand in marriage for love alone, with the million dollar inheritance incidentally thrown in. Even though the plot is a familiar one, Burgess's fast paced and witty prose makes this light read both lively and entertaining.
