Samuel Daniel Books, Samuel Daniel poetry book Samuel Daniel Authors: Samuel Daniel, Geoffrey G. Hiller
Publisher:
Published Date: 1998
Categories: Poetry
"This fully annotated edition of the poet and theorist's major work reveals a mind intensely engaged with different-even opposing-perspectives on philosophical and literary problems. Both innovative and influential, Daniel was an Elizabethan poet coming to terms with the social milieu, intellectual constructs, and poetic modes of the Jacobean era. His verse epistles illuminate the complex politics of poetic patronage, and the popular Complaint of Rosamund and Letter from Octavia give rare insight into early modern woman's predicament. Daniel's Defense was a pivotal text for Renaissance English poetics."

Samuel Daniel Books, Samuel Daniel poetry book Delia Authors: Samuel Daniel

Emulated by Shakespeare and admired by Wordsworth, Coleridge and Lamb, Samuel Daniel (1562-1619) is hardly a 'minor' poet. Yet, apart from the odd sonnet appearing in anthologies, nowadays he appears to be largely forgotten. This neglect is unforgivable because the gentle elegance of Daniel's verse would greatly reward today's discerning reader. This edition of Delia aims to make some of this master sonneteer's delightful poems readily available to a wider audience, this time not for arid academic work, but for pure personal pleasure. Because poetry is meant to be enjoyed!

Samuel Daniel Books, Samuel Daniel poetry book Selected Poems of Thomas Campion, Samuel Daniel and Sir Walter Ralegh Authors: Thomas Campion, Samuel Daniel, Sir Walter Raleigh
Publisher:
Published Date: 2001
Categories: English poetry
Campion's lyrics are the fruits of the two Golden ages of Elizabethan art: the musical and the poetic. His ayres wind together or unravel mixed emotions and ethical paradoxes in a striking array of voices from the ardent, stoical or lecherous, to the vengeful, disillusioned or quirky. Daniel refined the language for tangled emotional states, most famously in his sonnet sequence Delia. His poetry shows him shrinking from ambition and beset by self-doubt, while wrestling with historical and moral concerns. Ralegh cut a figure as flamboyant and melodramatic as Daniel's was reluctant. His world was duplicitous and dangerous, and his poetry took the form of a sophisticated game of political and emotional courtship with his female ruler.

Lewis Carroll Poem
Life Is But A Dream
 by Lewis Carroll

A boat, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear
