The Malay-took the Pearl-
Not-I-the Earl-
I-feared the Sea-too much
Unsanctified-to touch-
Praying that I might be
Worthy-the Destiny-
The Swarthy fellow swam-
And bore my Jewel-Home-
Home to the Hut! What lot
Had I-the Jewel-got-
Borne on a Dusky Breasty-
I had not deemed a Vest
Of Amber-fit-
The Negro never knew
I-wooed it-too-
To gain, or be undone-
